  1. Thank you so much for your compliment. I’m afraid I really don’t have any concrete writing suggestions. I’ve always been a writer – both for fun and professionally. I studied creative and technical writing in college and I’ve done a fair amount of editing over the years as well. For me, it’s really just a question of years of experience. As far as motivation goes, there’s a difference between the writing I do for fun and the writing I do in a forum like this. For “fun” writing, it’s all about the topic grabbing me and almost demanding to be written. That requires little mental prep because it almost writes itself. Professional writing on the other hand is very formulaic. It’s about making sure that I cover all the points that I’m trying to make while being sure it flows well and makes sense for the reader.

One piece of advice – don’t view writing for even 30 minutes and throwing it all out and starting again as a waste of time. That’s your method for focusing your thoughts. Sometimes establishing what you don’t want to do can be as useful as knowing what you do want to do. The process of elimination can be a valuable tool!

Good luck and keep writing! It’s good for the heart.

  2. First off I would like to say excellent blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t
mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
I have had difficulty clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out.
I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted
just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints?
    Appreciate it!
