ONGOING: One-On-One Genealogy Assistance at the North Adams Public Library
Are you stuck? Hit a brick wall? Not sure where to go from here? Just getting started on your family tree? Need to add a limb? If you live in the North Adams, MA area, you’re in luck! Alan Doyle Horbal is offering free genealogy assistance on Mondays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the North Adams Public Library.
Alan has in excess of 40 years of experience doing genealogical research and is a former volunteer at the National Archives. Assistance is by appointment ONLY, so contact the library at 413-662-3133, Ext 13 to make an appointment, or stop by the second floor of the library. The library is located at 74 Church Street. Parking is available.

Genealogist Melanie McComb will present on September 4th on the resources available at NEHGS and AmericanAncestors.org – “NEHGS: Who We Are, What We Do, How We Can Help.”
Melanie assists library visitors at NEHGS, both on-site and online, with their family history research. She also provides lectures on a variety of genealogical topics. Melanie holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Oswego. Her areas of research interest include Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Kansas, Prince Edward Island, Québec, and Ireland, and she is experienced in DNA, genealogical technology and social media, Jewish genealogy, and military records.

Speaker: Sandra Goodwin. “Using the PRDH and the LaFrance Databases”
Two of the most valuable resources available to French-Canadian genealogists are the PRDH and GenealogieQuebec’s Lafrance database. Sandra Goodwin of the Maple Stars and Stripes genealogy podcast will explain the different versions of the PRDH, the benefits of using the Lafrance database, and how to coordinate the information between both collections. The Drouin Institute has also generously donated two raffle prizes for audience members: a 1-year subscription to Genealogy Quebec (where you can access the Lafrance database as well as several other valuable resources) and 500 PRDH hits (a hit is access to one record).

The conference provides an opportunity to learn strategies for tracing your Polish-American and Eastern European roots. The speakers are well known in Polish genealogy circles and their discussions will enable attendees to fill in the missing pieces of their family history. Speakers have extensive experience in their respective fields and have been featured at numerous regional, national and international conferences.
Featured speakers will be Blaine Bettinger (Professional genealogist specializing in DNA evidence), Matthew Bielawa (Vice-President, PGSCTNE), Dr. Mieczyslaw B. Biskupski, (Endowed Chair, Polish and Polish-American Studies, CCSU), Daniel Buko(Professional genealogist from Krakow, Poland), Thomas Sadauskas (Genealogist from Virginia), Jonathan Shea, A.G., (President, PGSCTNE) and Maureen Taylor (Photo Detective, Rhode Island). Private one-on-one consultations with the speakers are also available, so sign up soon.
Throughout the day, a collection of books, maps and other materials will be available to all attendees for consultation. Officers of the Society will be present to answer questions.?? We also have many exhibitors who will display their items.
